ART IN RESIDENCE ZEITZ - A pre-gentrificational Sleep Installation

ART IN RESIDENCE ZEITZ - A pre-gentrificational Sleep Installation (Winter 2022)

"Art in Residence" was an experimental art project exploring the relations between creatives, money and gentrification. Sleep-over guests were able to spend a whole night in an exhibition. For this project I moved temporarily to Zeitz, a city which has lost 2/3 of its population after the end of the GDR. As the city had not been bombarded during the war and used to be very prosperous there is an impressive amount of beautiful historical buildings especially from the Gründerzeit era, many of which were empty and in desolate states at the time of the project with investors just starting to discover Zeitz for its close proximity to nearby Leipzig.

Coming from overcrowded and rather ugly Berlin this seems both absurd, incredibly sad and full of potential all at the same time. The project turned out to be very demanding on a personal level as it touched deeply on collective themes of the more recent German history as well as struggles and contradictions of the creative life.

The project was genorously funded by the "Innovative Art Projects" Program by BBK Bundesverband Bildender Künstler.
